The first minister I will explore is Dr. Estus Washington Pirkle (March 12, 1930 - March 3, 2005). He was a very interesting preacher, author, and film producer from from New Albany, Mississippi. He received his theological training from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After ministering in Georgia, Louisiana and Texas he settled in at Locust Grove Baptist Church in his hometown. This is where he accomplished most of his work.
Dr. Pirkle teamed up with Ron Ormond to create the films, "If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?", "The Burning Hell", and "The Believers Heaven."
My mother told me that she remembers Dr. Pirkle preaching at her church in the 1970's. He preached the Gospel very intensely, and upon completing his sermon was drenched in sweat and nearly in a state of shock. My parents also heard him preach at South Side High School in Jackson, TN in 1969. Imagine allowing such a pastor to speak in todays public schools! Here is a clipping from their yearbook recording the event. (They spelled his name incorrectly!)
In the next few posts I am going to showcase some of his films and publications. I hope that you find this man and his mission to be intriguing.

I am really excited about this blog. I think it will prove to be an invaluable look into the Christian faith and hopefully it will encourage others to discuss and to create in an encouraging way. You are the man, Matthew.
Great work Matthew! I am going to subscribe to your blog.
