Jeff Godwin and Pan

"Who is this grotesque creature?

If you are an avid fan of Heavy Metal, "Chrsitian" Rock, rap, or several other forms of today's supposedly "safe" popular music, he is the god YOU worship.

He is the god of Rock & Roll, a Greek deity named Pan. "Pan is represented as more or less bestial in shape having the horns, legs and ears of a goat..." The entire rock world is a massive cult dedicated to him. Multiplied millions of young people are being sacrificed to this master demon as they pass through the fires of rock."

This post is a preview of my next series on the ministry of Jeff Godwin, an ex-rocker turned KJO minister.

Union Sculpture Tour Gospel Tract

I was inspired by Jack Chick Tracts to create a tract style brochure for the now mostly blown away Union Sculpture Tour. This project was for Graphics II and features Tyson Cadenhead as Brother James Dudley. Enjoy and share your thoughts. (Click on each image to get a closer look.)

Happy Easter from John Daker!

What a wonderful medley!

Jack Chick on Catholics

Jack Chick has a lot to say about the Catholic Church, and he has used every means available to spread his message. These mediums include tracts, comics, books, the web, etc. He is relentless in spreading his outrageous message. According to a Catholic Answers special report this is the short list of what Jack Chick has claimed in his publications:
  • "The Catholic Church keeps "the name of every Protestant church member in the world" in a "big computer" in the Vatican for use in future persecutions.[1]

  • But the conspiracy is much broader than this, and it has been going on for a very long time. In the sixth century, for instance, Catholic leaders manipulated the Arabian tribesman Mohammed into creating the religion of Islam to use as a weapon against the Jews and to conquer Jerusalem for the pope.[2]

  • The Jesuits instigated the American Civil War, supporting the Confederate cause and seeking to undermine the Union. When they failed, they arranged the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.[3] Later, they formed the Ku Klux Klan.[4]

  • "Jesuits worked closely with Marx, Engels, Trotsky, Lenin, and Stalin" to create Communism, and it was "believed that soon . . . Communism would rise up as the new strong daughter of the Vatican."[5] It was Rome that instigated the Bolshevik Revolution and the murder of the czar’s family.[6] The Communist "liberation theology" movement also is a Vatican plot.[7]

  • The Nazi Holocaust of the 1940s was a Vatican-controlled attempt to exterminate Jews and heretics.[8] Further, "Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco were backed by the Vatican for the purpose of setting up a one-world government to usher in the ‘Millennial Kingdom’ under Pope Pius XII."[9]

  • The Vatican conspiracy is so extensive that, through the Jesuits, Rome controls the Illuminati, the Council on Foreign Relations, international bankers, the Mafia, the Club of Rome, the Masons, and the New Age movement.[10]"

Here are a few excerpts from his tracts dealing with the Catholic church.

These are just a few examples of Jack Chicks view on the catholics.

The thing I find most interesting is that these tracts make known what Jack Chick is against and not what he is for. Isn't being know what you are for more constructive?

Estus On Soaps and Television

"What about your marriage? Did you know that there are footmen today who are not interested in you and your wife living together? Are you? [...] They are against your marriage and will do everything they can to destroy it."

"I wonder how many of you women, in the middle of the day, have to watch "the Edge of Night" or "As the World Turns" or the "Hospital Report". Those programs are definitely designed to break you and your husband up. They are designed to ruin your home. They are not merely foolish entertainment but devilish entertainment designed to tear up your home. The sooner you recognize that, the better off you will be. The first time Bill is five minutes late in coming home from the office, you get suspicious. You say, "Yes I saw on 'Hospital Report' like this. I know where he is. He is flirting with some other woman." These programs are designed to bring suspicions."

"Not only that, but television is dead set on taking your children out of your hands. It's designed in that direction. It's moving in that direction totally and completely. Who is the hero of all the little boys and girls today? It is Mr. Tarzan and he is nine-tenths undressed. Boys and girls think that if they are to be a hero like Tarzan, they must pull their clothes off. Continually that is bombarding their eye. The Bible says, "if the eye is full of darkness, how great is that darkness." Continually television is telling them to undress."

"In a program on Dac Tari in October 1967, this statement was made. You know that this is a program that has lots of animals on the programs and children like to watch animals. A leading character named Jack was in a room full of monkeys and typewriters. Jack made this statement "You give enough monkeys enough typewriters and enough time and one of them will eventually come up with a King James Version of the Bible or the works of Shakespeare." Did you hear it? This program is teaching your boys and girls that this Word of God which we are studying today is monkey business. It is nothing but what a bunch of monkeys could have produced."

"Your television is continually teaching your children things that are contrary to the Word of God."

*The above text and illustration was taken from the "If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do" sermon book.

Dr. Estus Pirkle first preached this sermon on January 31, 1968. Imagine what he would have said about television programs today. Much worse things are said than that the Bible is Monkey business. Casual sex, broken homes and secularism reigns supreme over the entire entertainment industry today. Most people would probably dismiss what Dr. Pirkle proposing is silly.

Our outlets of entertainment do greatly affect our worldview. It seeps deep into our thought life and changes how we view this age. The outlooks and attitudes of those we spend the most time with makes its mark on our lives. We may not consider spending our free time with adulterous, blasphemous, alcoholics, but some may find watching them on TV entertaining. If we spend lots of time with characters like this on TV, and come under their influence, we may begin to think, and eventually act as they do.

I am not sure what else to say.

Perspective

I have been thinking about the consequences that characters in Estus Pirkle films and Chick Tracts experience because of their sins. In Estus Pirkle the result of sin comes to its head with a communist take over. Christians are murdered, raped, tortured and made into slaves as a result of their rebellion.

Often in Chick Tracts the sinful characters end up making literal pacts with the devil or become vampires or something extreme.

Do you think that it would be more practical to discuss the immediate results of a persons sin? For example, Estus Pirkle links the use of drugs and alcohol as a factor leading up to military invasion. Wouldn't it be more piercing to the soul and practical to discuss how addiction and alcoholism causes you to become someone you are not, and harm those around you?

Also, sexual sins of all sorts are shown in these stories lead to God pouring out his wrath in very materialistic ways. The new government will take your land and all your possessions. Why not address how sexual sins destroy the body, conscience, and fellowship with God? Wouldn't that seem more constructive.

People can see how sin destroys their lives, because it has happened to them. They have experienced the pain first hand. On the other hand American's have not experienced a Communist take over, and most would view this as an unlikely outcome of their sins. Loosing your spouse because of adultery is much more tangible outcome, so why not focus on those possible outcomes.

There are much more important consequences people should fear above material loss. Christians shouldn't fear a communist regime taking over. There is a much more severe fate for our sins than any hellbent country could threaten us with. That fate is spiritual death, which is everlasting.
